THE HISTORY

Back in the year 1936 the Cirri family, originally hatters from Tuscany, moved to Rome where they set up a handicraft shop producing hats for gentlemen, ladies and children, as well as for fashion houses, film studios and theatres – an activity that never came to a halt and still enjoys momentum today.

Recently taken over by Patrizia and Pier Carlo Fabri, the Cirri family’s concern has now been renamed "ANTICA MANIFATTURA CAPPELLI"

This company’s old shop premises can rightly be considered a historical heritage. The Roman location at Via degli Scipioni 46 has never changed, both furniture and equipment being original. Among the very few manual crafts still current, the ANTICA MANIFATTURA CAPPELLI’s hat-making techniques are the traditional ones of old, based on shaping hats by hand on wooden moulds.

Generations of accumulated knowledge find their counterpart in the daily use of ancient tools. Most important among these is the shop’s endless collection of wooden hat moulds: a genuine art heritage, now enabling us to reproduce very wide ranges of hat models dating from the early 1900’s to present days.

Our ANTICA MANIFATTURA CAPPELLI specializes as well in exclusive “single-piece” creations, with textiles often supplied by any individual customer. We also deliver hats to fashion houses, to the film and theatre industries, tour operators and air lines. When quantities of serial-made hats are demanded, these are processed on special pedal-operated benches, each hat being formed in turn in heated moulds.

Thus, the ANTICA MANIFATTURA CAPPELLI’s typical high standards are readily recognisable. Each hand-made hat benefits by the expertise of craftsmen who have been for a long time with the Company and who still are at work in our laboratories. With us, the two terms “Hand-made along traditional methods” and “Made in Italy” are not mere slogans, but solid warranties of top-most quality.
